Josep Maria Martí Duran

He began studying plucked-string instruments after completing classical guitar with Jordi Codina. He studied with Xavier Díaz-Latorre at ESMUC in Barcelona, with Massimiliano Toni in Novara and with Eduardo Egüez at the Zurich University of the Arts.

From the start he has worked with leading early-music ensembles, and still does. They include Le Concert des Nations and Hespèrion XXI (dir. Jordi Savall), L'Arpeggiata (dir. Christina Pluhar), the Early Opera Company (dir. Christian Curnyn), Café Zimmermann (dir. Pablo Valetti), La Terza Prattica (dir. Massimiliano Toni) and Los Músicos de su Alteza (dir. Luis Antonio González).

He has performed in major halls around the world and recorded for France Musique, Radio France, RNE, the BBC and Catalunya Ràdio, and for Warner Classics & Erato, Sony and Alpha.

Alongside that discography, two personal projects stand out: Eternità d'Amore, presented in June 2019 at the Boston Early Music Festival, and Ad Álgea, his first solo album, a new look at Handel and Purcell that turns opera arias into music for theorbo.

He has given masterclasses at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, at the 11th Academy of the Capella Reial de Catalunya directed by Jordi Savall, and at the Pôle des Arts Baroques in Toulouse.
